Whenever the heating season started, I would try to check surreptitiously for people who had a stove or an old boiler in their home, if there were any old shoes to burn in front of the stove. Did you have the same? I would often look out for any shoes next to the coal, coke and wood... If there were any, I would feel sorry... and imagine them in the arms of the fire. It's awful...

It's something like a sweet curse and it grows more with age.
Do you have access to private houses with old burning equipment? Here in Germany there aren't many of domestic burning places which could be suitable to burn shoes any more. Modern Environmental rules and nosy neighbours prevent any affords to burn shoes. May be in rural destricts there are still suitable fireplaces but I have no access to them.
If I find ashes of a fire I watch closely for remains of burnt women's shoes as shanks, buckles or charcoled leather. On a holiday in Spain I've often seen discarded shoes at the roadside or in the landscape and as the people often burn their trash in the landscape I found charred remains of high heels which gave me a thrill and a deep sorrow for the poor shoes. In my childhood my mothers discarded high heels has been throwen into a coal crate and burnt one by one in our old boiler. I was allowed to play with them till none of them had been left but never allowed to keep a pair.

Unfortunately, I no longer have anyone in my family who has a stove or an old boiler in which to burn shoes. This situation used to happen, I saw such boilers about 10 years ago. When I was a teenager and a boy, it was normal that whoever had a stove, burned old shoes, very often women's high heels. I wonder how many people have such a fetish like us. Often nowadays when I see a pretty girl I look at her shoes and in my imagination I burn them in an old stove... it is a strong fetish closely related to sexual emotions.

Yes, that's right. Shoes lying next to or right in front of the stove stimulate the imagination. It looks like they will soon be burned.
